So you have heard in the last post that teens like to create virtual restaurants, shops, hospitals and much more in Habbo. More than anything teens love popular culture and a strange and interesting behaviour we are seeing is the recreation is Paddy McGuinness’ ‘Take Me Out’ on ITV 1. For those that do know what this show is click here for more info.
So how does it work virtually and who hosts these shows?
Habbo teens literally follow the format of the show to the letter. They enter the room and form orderly lines of boys and girls waiting to get on the show. The room owner (who acts as the matchmaking show host) lets the girls through the girl’s gate and they get in to position (standing in front of their chairs). The boys patiently wait until they are let through and take to the stage.
Once on stage, the host asks the boy to introduce himself and talk about themselves (such as age, location, hobbies and interests). If the girls do not like what they hear / see they sit on their chairs and wait for the next boy!
As per the show, the boy needs to whittle down the girls to just two remaining, by standing in front of the girls they are not interested in and asking them kindly to ‘SIT!’. Once happy with their selection the boy then asks a question to the girls, for example…
‘If the world was going to end tomorrow what would you do?’
When the girls respond the boy then makes the ultimate decision on which girl he goes on a date with! Once selected, the two newly dating couple need to choose a door of destiny, which could lead to a virtual beach, nightclub, park or penthouse suite!
Surreal I know, but Habbo teens spend hours doing such activities, maybe they are too shy to ask someone on a date IRL (in real life)? They have also begun creating ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ rooms – Can you imagine a virtual Simon Cowell?
It goes to show that games like Habbo really do provide real life simulators for young people eager to create their own versions or real world popular culture.
If you have a Habbo account click here to enter a ‘Take Me Out‘ room and check for yourself!
